The Hour of Code was held in the Lviv schools. This is a global educational movement aimed at promoting informational technologies. Within the framework of the project, IT specialists attend educational institutions they conduct a one-hour introduction to computer science together with teachers. Thanks to the developed materials and the support of experienced mentors, children learn to code in the format of a game. The initiative was founded in 2013 by the organization Code.org. Since its foundation, it has reached over 480 million schoolchildren in 180+ countries worldwide.

This year, the Hour of Code was held in Lviv during December 4-10 for schoolchildren of 8 and 9 grades. Mentors conducted classes in 102 schools involving about 17,000 attendees. SoftServe traditionally joined the initiative – more than 20 employees became mentors, among them one of the co-founders of the company Taras Kytsmey.

“I am very excited to join educational projects aimed at the development of the next generations. This is my small investment in driving positive changes in the world and my gratitude to people who were mentors for me throught my life. Indeed, this is very inspiring,” comments Oksana Hryvnak, Project Manager, SoftServe. “Participation in the Hour of Code is an incredible energy boost from smart and curious schoolchildren, open to innovations.”
